"Holiday At Home", "Get Summer Started In Style", "Create Your Ideal Holiday At Home" - we have all seen the attention grabbing signs on the high street. The Independent reports that, while bad news for travel agents, the growing popularity for staycations is proving to be a very welcome marketing tool for those stores specialising in home and garden products.

High street stores are marketing staycation ideasThe global recession is not yet showing any signs of easing, the pound is weak against the euro and we all feel guilty at the carbon footbprint we leave when flying. So, more and more of us are turning our thoughts to a staycation and the high street interior and garden retailers are keen to capitalise to help them navigate the choppy waters of recession. Big name brands such as Ikea, John Lewis and Laura Ashley are all aiming at those of us who are staying at home for the holidays.

So, go on and do your bit. Your country needs you and all that (well, the home and garden shops anyway). Set up the deckchairs and an inflatable pool in the garden (don't forget to put your towels on the chairs first thing in the morning), open the popcorn, hire a DVD or two and transform the living room into a cinema, turn your dining room into the poshest restaurant on your street.

Go on, have a great staycation and do your bit to help stimulate the economy.Do your bit for the economy and have a staycation.
